Pittsburgh Assistance Center for Educators and Students
PACES provides one-day and multi-day enrichment programs for after-school groups who serve students attending public schools in Allegheny County. Recently, we updated and expanded our Sci-tectives
program (which we offered for the past four years) to "After-school Connections". Re-framing this outreach communicates our program goals to connect and integrate key school curricular objectives into after-school learning opportunities. Programs are still hands-on and feature interactive activities. Students work in small groups to complete challenges centered on various themes (civil engineering, urban planning, transportation, math in sports, etc.).
Learning Objectives and Curriculum Connections
Each "After-school Connections" program includes learning objectives based on accepted and practiced school standards. While the overarching theme of each program may be different, all "After-school Connections" include learning objectives based in the following three areas:
English Language Arts
Social and Emotional Learning
PACES will research the participating after-school program's public school's behavior and learning expectations and align our "After-school Connections" accordingly to help ensure continuity for students.
