Pittsburgh Assistance Center for Educators and Students
The PACES STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) outreach program is called
“Sci-tectives” and centers on creating investigative, experiment-based learning activities for students. The program is for students in grades K-6 and is offered through partnerships with local after-school programs. We aim to foster excitement and curiosity for STEM areas through engaging and fun educational activities in which students use science to solve mysteries.
Last September, PACES visited the FROGS After-school Program and focused on chemistry-based experiments and in October we tackled basic elements of civil engineering. PACES volunteers led students through different activities and enjoyed seeing the excitement and enthusiasm this great group of children brought to the tasks. Thank you to FROGS director, Debbie Pike, the other FROGS volunteers, the PACES volunteers, and, of course, the students for making this such an enjoyable, and educational, program!
